LIFE REFLECTIONS

Eddie Hester, Jr.  was born March 9, 1979 as the fourth child to the loving union of Eddie Hester, Sr. and Gloria Hester. From his birth Eddie and his sister Angie had an unbreakable bond, and it was evident to all of those around. Gloria had to tell Angie that Eddie was not her baby because of the way Angie would try to take care of him. “Eddie was my best friend from the time we were little until we were adults” – Angie DeCuir. As a child Eddie loved movies, especially horror movies, and pranks. He also loved to wrestle and would watch Summer Slam with Angie every year. He loved Christmas music hymns and would spend every Christmas at a candlelight service with his family. One of Eddie’s favorite things may have been pizza gaining him the title of “pizzeria” from his dad.

Eddie was the kind of person everybody loved, and it was because of his magnetism. He had an effect on everyone with his smile, laid back personality and concern for others. Eddie could make friends with anyone. “Uncle Eddie was such a friendly, kind-hearted, generous, and loving person. He could honestly make friends with a rattlesnake. He got along with everyone and everyone loved him. He was always trying to do nice things for people and was always very giving with his family” – Hannah DeCuir. He exuded love for people, especially his family, and he knew how to be silly and have a good time and make those around him have a good time as well. “I remember meeting Eddie, he was 13. Angie told him we were dating; so he dared us to kiss for two minutes to prove we were really dating. Silly” – Pete Decuir.

Eddie met Ebony Hutchinson in 2016, and by their second date, they knew that God had made them for each other. Eddie told Angie that he had a girlfriend, and Angie could see the happiness all over him. Eddie and Ebony married September 3, 2017. They added their beloved puggle Elton Hester to their family in March 2018, and April 8, 2019, they were blessed with Edward Maxwell Hester. Eddie was an amazing partner, provider and protector for Ebony, Edward and Elton. “Even though we will miss his physical presence, we know he is still protecting us even now” – Ebony Hester. Eddie and Ebony shared a short life together, but the love they have will last forever.

Eddie had a special relationship with his mother. “Eddie was the last one to leave home. We would cook together and share recipes. He loved my chili and ended up making it even better than me” – Gloria Hester. He also had a special relationship with his nieces and nephews. He loved them and was a big part of their lives. “When I was 6 or 7, Uncle Eddie took me to my first concert. It was Celine Dion. I thought it was really cool because we both dressed up, and he was really excited to bring me” – Hannah DeCuir. Eddie shared his faith with his nieces and nephews and inspired them to know God. He also shared his love for 80s action movies with them. He would joke and act silly with the kids chasing them around the house and play fighting with them. “Uncle Eddie was always there to help us. He always saw the best in people and made the best of his life. I hope to be like him” – Noah DeCuir. “Uncle Eddie gave me a navy blue Odwalla hoodie that became a favorite of mine” – Gabe DeCuir.

Eddie’s faith was very strong. He was a man of God and always remained faithful and hopeful even when things seemed impossible. He spent his last months not focused on himself but loving on his family and checking on others. “He would always ask how my parents were doing, even when he was in the hospital. They would always ask about him too” – Pete DeCuir. Eddie would watch videos, listen to music and dance around with Edward. “Blinding Light by The Weekend came on, and Eddie started dancing silly for Edward, and Edward just look at him and then started jumping around with him. I could not stop laughing” – Angie DeCuir.

Eddie leaves to cherish his memory his wife Ebony Hester and son Edward Hester; parents Eddie Hester, Sr. and Gloria Hester; brother Demetrius (Tammy) Hester, Sr.; sisters Eileen Calamese and Andrea (Pete) DeCuir); nieces and nephews Demetrius Hester, Jr., Courtney Hester, Anthony Hester, NeNe Hster, Ariel Randall, Hannah DeCuir, Noah DeCuir and Gabe DeCuir, and a special godson. A foundation, Hester’s Hope, has been set up to honor Eddie’s life.

"A life well lived is a legacy all its own."

In lieu of flowers donations to Hester's Hope, an organization bringing hope to every moment for those who are terminally ill, their family and their caregivers.
